Home Remedies to Get Rid of Smelling Underarms:

When the summers approach, one major concern that bothers many people is the bad odor from underarms. While you get many suggestions on “how to control your sweat from becoming bad in odor” lesser people know that it is not the sweat that causes the smell, it is the presence of bacteria. The sweat in itself is odorless. The bacteria which is present on the surface of our skin, find it easier to multiply in the moist area on the skin when they come in contact with the sweat- the kind of bad odor gets produced as a result.

The question is what kind of home remedies we can use to get rid of the problem of smelling underarms. It is not possible for everyone to apply mask, scrubs or other complex treatments every day.

In this article we present to you some of the tried and proven techniques that can very humbly solve this problem. And you will be surprised to know that all it takes is a few very readily available kitchen ingredients:

  • Lemon:

Lemon can be vouched for all types of smelling underarms. It gives you aromatic freshness for as long as 6-8 hours very easily in a normal daily routine.

There are several ways to use lemon:

  1. Squeeze the lemon in a spoon of gram flour. Use it as a scrub thrice a week to clean the underarms. Not only will it clean the dark underarms but also make them free from bad odor.
  2. Take the peels of lemon and gently rub it on your underarms. You can use a few drops of lemon juice as well but that sometimes causes irritation on the skin if applied directly. You can mix it with 1 tsp of Rose water and apply on your underarms before bathing. Use cotton for dabbing and application. Wash in 10 minutes. It will keep you freshened up for the whole day.
  3. Some users find the lemon based essential oils to be very effective in treatment of bad odor. 1 or 2 drops of lemon based essential oil mixed with olive oil or coconut oil after bath will not only work as effective body odor controlling agent but also maintain pleasant fragrance throughout the day. If you wish to experiment you can mix sandalwood based or any other flower extract based essential oil to the above mix. Rub it or dab it on your underarms when they are clean for whole day freshness.
  4. Use the leaves of lemon tree. Crush them mildly and apply them on your underarms before bathing. Leave for 5-10 minutes and wash. It is one of the best remedies to keep away unpleasant odor.

The anti bacterial and acidic properties of lemon kill the bacteria that germinate for a long period of time. This treatment even helps in removing the tan and makes them look clean and clear in the most natural way.

  • Cornstarch:

Use a pinch of cornstarch and apply it under your skin. Leave for 5-10 minutes and wash off.

  • Tea tree oil:

Tea tree oil is not a long lasting remedy in many cases if not applied properly. You need to rub it several times a day. Its antibacterial properties act gradually on the underarms and give you subtle fragrance if used as mentioned. Take a few drops of tea tree oil and apply on the cleaned underarms. (Use wet tissues to clean the underarm area if you are in office or outside for most part of the day).

  • Rose water:

Rose water maintains unsullied freshness through your clothes. You can use a rose water spray and apply directly on the underarms. This works for a good body spray or deodorant too. The key is to use it at least 3-4 times a day and keep your underarm area clean. These above are some of the home based remedies that will definitely help you in getting rid of any unpleasant odor during summers. If you feel fresh and smell good not only does it have a positive impact on the people around you- in fact “you” stay energized the whole day. Direct yourself to a lot of positivity and adopt any of the above healthy hygienic routine to give yourself a fresh start of the day.
